Menu del dia:
Most restaurants offer a menu del dia at lunchtime - a set-price three-course meal with water or wine included. You won't get much choice (typically soup or salad, meat or fish and fruit or ice cream) but the food will be freshly cooked, filling and sometimes surprisingly good. A three-course lunch in a small rural town will often cost less than a single portion of tapas in Palma.

Fish and Seafood:
Mallorca's fish stocks have long been in decline and most of the fish on sale in Mallorca is imported from mainland Spain and beyond. By law, restaurant menus should state whether fish is fresh or frozen - prices for frozen fish are invariably cheaper. Fresh fish is always excellent; Specialities include lobster casserole, sea bass in rock salt, and greixonera de peix, a hearty fish stew cooked in an earthenware bowl.
