Mallorca a paradise for cyclists
 

Palmanova - Santa Ponsa.

Points of interest: This area is renowned for it beaches, but its rural surroundings provide a peaceful ride. In La Caleta there is a monument commemorating the Reconquest of Mallorca in 1229. There is a lovely view of Malgrat Isle and Conill Isle from a well-placed mirador.

Itinerary: Palmanova - Santa Ponça.

Distance: 18 km there and back

Difficulty: Asphalted road with some pronounced bends. Bicycle with gears recommended.

Route: You leave from the Avenida de la Playa going in the direction of the roundabout which leads to the main road. Turn left and continue for 2 km until you see a sign where you have to turnleft again. Continue along this road until you see a petrol station at some 1000 m and a new sign showing the way to Portals Veils, El Toro and Son Ferrer which you follow and 1500 metres further on you will see the signposts to Son Ferrer, El Toro and Santa Ponça to the right. Then a comfortable ride for 4 km You will see a signpost to nearby beach and you can ride down to it for a rest stop. Continuing on, you reach a roundabout with signs to Islas Malgrats and centro . Turn right and at 500 m, there is another roundabout with a sign indicating you have to conthoue straight on to Santa Ponça. A sew metres later, you will have lovely views of the locality. but take care. for the downhill stretch is quite steep. Then you reach another roundabout. Continue ahead until you reach yet another one with a sign to Santa Ponça. Turn left, and at 500 m you will find yourself in the central area of Santa Ponça. The return journey may be made by the same route or along the main road but this has heavy traffic
